The REAL 2023 New Year

Important note regarding the “New Year":

Hold your January 1st resolutions lightly for a few weeks. The actual New Year doesn’t really start until January 21st/22nd (different timezones) when we have the New Moon.

FYI, this is always the case- the real New Year is the Chinese/ Lunar New Year, which always falls on the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice.

January 21st/22nd is the day when the Earth’s seasons are actually starting to shift from winter stillness to spring movement, and so it's at this time, the energy of the universe can support us to make the fresh starts we want to make in 2023. Astrology is about reading the cosmic weather and doing what's appropriate for different types of weather. (Think: harvesting crops when everything is fully grown; skiing when there is snow on the ground; wearing a hat on hot, sunny days; driving slowly in torrential rain, etc.) We can begin 2023 with new habits and changed mindsets, but be gentle and realistic- it’s only after January 21/22 that your efforts can start to take root for real.

I think the lunar calendar is a relief, to have the first three weeks of 2023 to refine and imagine what we would like our lives to look like in the new year.

Also helping us create our vision in 2023:

Mercury Retrograde until January 18th, during which time we can question, refine, re-think, and re-vision our vision for the year.

2023 starts off with a nice, slow-building pace to create and innovate things that last
