“Stress” Is Not An External Event

A stressful event is something experienced internally.

When you need to quickly and easily shift your nervous system, it's most easily and quickly done with breathing. Why? because good breathing massages the vagus nerve, which controls the part of our nervous system that caaaallllmmmsss us down.

Getting de-stressed IS as easy as taking a few strategic breaths. It literally takes seconds. You can even use these at the dinner table and no one will even know you're having a Calgon moment.

EASY STRESS Rx:

Breath Recipe #1: EQUAL INHALE-EXHALE

  • breath IN, deeply and slowly into your belly for a count of 4, or 8, whichever is comfortable (your belly should protrude out, like a “Buddha belly”)

  • breathe OUT for the same count, either 4 or 8

  • do 5 or 10 of these, in which your exhale is the same count or rate of your inhale

  • you will feel instantly more balanced

Breath Recipe #2, extra calming: DOUBLE THE EXHALE

  • breath IN, deeply and slowly into your belly for a slow count of 4 (your belly should protrude out, like a “Buddha belly”)

  • breathe OUT for double the count, a count of 8

  • do 5 or 10 of these breaths, in which your exhale is double the rate of your inhale

  • you will feel instantly calmer & less stressed
