Box breathing is one of the most widely used yogic breathing exercises uses for balancing your nervous system. If you've studied any mindfulness techniques or yoga, you undoubtedly know this breathing pattern- but have you actually practiced it lately?

This simple breathing pattern is reportedly used by Navy SEALs to maintain a state of both calm & alertness. Use this breath throughout the day, if you're feeling anxious/stressed, and it will help you to be simultaneously relaxed AND focused, which is what's necessary to accesss creativity and clear thinking. How great is that? (I sound like Ina Garten.) Take 5 minutes & try it.

Here's how to do Box Breathing:

  • inhale for a count of 4

  • hold for 4

  • exhale for 4

  • hold for 4

  • repeat

do for 5 minutes

 

If you are an experienced breather, 

try a count of 8.
